After vandalism, keep ‘doing Jewish’

An act of vandalism was reported at Congregation Sinai in early September.

At the entrance to the Fox Point synagogue, on the entry driveway, someone spray-painted the word “FILITH.” It’s not clear if this was a misspelling of “filth,” or a reference to a character in a popular online game.

Law enforcement agencies are investigating, according to the synagogue. The Jewish Community Relations Council of the Milwaukee Jewish Federation and the Anti-Defamation League were all notified.

The synagogue reports it has robust security protocols in place and has established strong relationships with local law enforcement and the Wisconsin Jewish Security Network.

“Our collective best response to such an act is to continue ‘doing Jewish,’ with enthusiasm and without missing a beat,” said Rabbi David Cohen, in an email to congregants. “Together, we will continue to affirm the values of dignity, respect, and sacred purpose that stand at the core of who we are.”
