BROOKFIELD — Dr. Ramona Tenorio, co-founder and executive director of Tiyuv, has been named to the newest cohort of The Collective, a leadership program operated by Elluminate that supports Jewish women nonprofit leaders in the U.S. and Israel.
Tenorio is one of ten women selected nationally and the only participant from Wisconsin. Elluminate’s Collective is described as a catalyst for social innovation and social change through a gender lens. According to the organization, the program provides training, funding, networking, and support to help Jewish women deepen their impact and implement organizational-level change.
The latest cohort brings the total number of participants to 70 since the program’s inception. Participants were selected through a months-long competitive process that evaluated candidates’ feminist leadership, connection to Jewish values, and their work in areas such as poverty reduction, gender justice, and inclusion.
In addition to her role in the Elluminate program, Tenorio and her nonprofit Tiyuv are currently leading a new research project in partnership with Milwaukee Jewish Federation. The study focuses on the experiences of Jews of Color and mixed-race Jewish households in the Greater Milwaukee area.
The project is commissioned by the Milwaukee Jewish Federation and is being conducted by, and in partnership with the Tiyuv research team, according to the Federation. The study complements the broader Milwaukee Jewish Community Study initiated in fall 2024.
Tiyuv, which means “improvement” in Hebrew, is a national nonprofit that helps Jewish organizations address barriers to equity and inclusion. The current Milwaukee study invites individuals and families to participate through interviews and story circles, with the goal of informing more inclusive practices within local Jewish institutions.
Participants are eligible if they are over 18, live in or have ties to the Greater Milwaukee Area, and identify as part of a household with at least one BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, or Person of Color) Jewish member. A $25 gift card is offered to those who take part in interviews or focus groups.
