Madison Hillel adds staff members, programs

The Hillel Foundation University of Wisconsin in Madison is adding staff members and programs this autumn, according to a report in the August issue of the Madison Jewish News.

To expand its connection to Orthodox Jewish students at UW-Madison, the Hillel is including in its programs the Heshe and Harriet Seif Jewish Learning Initiative on Campus of the Orthodox Union.

Through this initiative, the OU sends Orthodox couples to colleges and universities to provide learning opportunities and programs and help Orthodox students navigate campuses.

Filling the role of the first JLIC educators at UW-Madison are Ora and Shlomo Geller, who arrived last month from Israel. Shlomo is finishing a graduate degree in mechanical engineering at the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology, while Ora has a Master of Business Administration degree from Ariel University.

In addition, the Hillel has hired Rebecca Joey Schwab as engagement associate and Lily Nagy-Deak as director of Jewish student life.

Schwab is a UW-Madison graduate in Jewish studies and Hebrew studies. She has worked for the Jewish Federation of Madison’s day camp and Hebrew high school programs.

Nagy-Deak is a graduate of Brandeis University in theater arts and Judaic studies. She recently worked as interim education director at the Beth Israel Center in Madison.
