‘Jewish Legacy’ program partners with 16 groups

The Jewish Community Foundation of the Milwaukee Jewish Federation in March announced the acceptance of 16 community partners for the new “Create a Jewish Legacy” program.

Create a Jewish Legacy is a collaborative legacy and endowment program that benefits Milwaukee’s Jewish agencies, synagogues and day schools through the creation of commitments to secure the community’s future.

It is designed to enable donors to fulfill their philanthropic goals while strengthening Milwaukee’s Jewish community for generations to come.

This two-year program is sponsored and presented by the JCF. The program is supported in part by the Harold Grinspoon Foundation’s LIFE & LEGACY program and four local funders.

With Create a Jewish Legacy, donors have the ability to make legacy gifts to benefit organizations important to them and the community.

By making a commitment either through a current or future gift to a Jewish organization’s endowment fund at the JCF, or by declaring the intent to remember causes in a will or estate plan, donors can help make a difference.

Regardless of age, wealth or affiliation, donors can express their values, honor their heritage and do something lasting for the community.

Together with her late husband Samuel K. Chortek, Doris Hersh Chortek recently finalized the plans they had made to leave a legacy to several organizations in our community.

A respected activist and community volunteer, Chortek has served on numerous boards as a chair or officer and her leadership has benefited more than 50 non-profit organizations.

“Participation in Jewish organizations on a local and national level has been a vital part of my life and learning,” she said. “If we truly wish to repair the world, we must be actively engaged in the world.

“Today, I hope many more of us will provide for the financial security of the organizations in the greater Milwaukee community.”

Through Create a Jewish Legacy, donors can create a lasting legacy to match their values and passions with the community’s needs. Together, they can affect the future of the Jewish community and make a difference in the lives of generations to come.

A legacy gift can be customized and structured to fit the dreams, lifestyle and financial needs of any family. A legacy gift can perpetuate Jewish traditions and values, preserve the programs and institutions that support Jewish life in Milwaukee, and plan for a family’s philanthropic interests.

Stephen L. Chernof is chair and Caren B. Goldberg is executive director of the JCF. For more information about the program, contact the JCF, 414-390-5737 or careng@milwaukeejewish.org.
