B&E General Contractors
receives remodelers’ honors

         B&E General Contractors, Inc., of Glendale received several awards from the Milwaukee National Association of the Remodeling Industry Wisconsin Remodeler of the Year competition.

         It earned a gold award in the category of Residential Bathroom $30,000-$60,000 for a master bathroom in Waukesha.

         It earned a gold award in the category of Residential Addition $100,000-$250,000.

         And Mark Brick, B&E president, received the Mary Fox-Hagner Lifetime Achievement Award for his quarter-century work with Milwaukee and national NARI, which included serving as local and national president.

         The awards were presented Jan. 20 at the Milwaukee Intercontinental Hotel.

 
Feinberg to retire
from Meta House

         Francine Feinberg, Ph.D., executive director of Meta House, Inc., for 29 years, has announced that she will retire effective Aug. 31.

         Meta House is a Milwaukee-based facility that provides treatment for women with substance abuse disorders, and provides treatment and support for their children as well. It was founded in 1963.

         A feature article about Feinberg and her work appeared in The Wisconsin Jewish Chronicle in December 2009.

 
Social studies teacher
Koren honored

         Michael Koren, a social studies teacher at Maple Dale School, was named the 2012 recipient of the R. J. Snavely Award by the Wisconsin Council for the Social Studies. This award is given annually by the executive board of WCSS to recognize outstanding service to the social studies community.

         Koren has served on the executive board of WCSS since the early 1990s. He is the treasurer of the organization and will also become executive director of internal affairs of WCSS this month.

         In addition, Koren has served two terms on the board of directors for the National Council for the Social Studies. He was named Outstanding State and National Middle School Teacher of the Year in 2010 by WCSS and NCSS and a Herb Kohl Scholar in 2008 by the Herb Kohl Educational Foundation.

 
Federation names Lindow
chief financial officer

         Tom Lindow has been appointed the chief financial officer of the Milwaukee Jewish Federation. He began work on March 1.

         Lindow has an Master of Business Administration degree from the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota and earned his undergraduate degree from the Lubar School of Business at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

         He previous served as finance/accounting manager and as accounting director for a Fortune 500 company that provides banking and payment software and services. He also has background in finance, properties, and information technology.
