Kohl hired as J Street political director

Daniel Kohl is the new political director of J Street, a Washington, D.C.-based organization that which calls itself “the political arm of the pro-Israel, pro-peace movement.” Kohl began his work on April 27.

After 14 years serving in various capacities with the Milwaukee Bucks, Kohl was director for New Schools Development at the SEED foundation. He was a candidate for a seat in the State Assembly. He was a member of the Obama campaign’s national finance committee.

Kohl is the president of Milwaukee Jewish Day School and on the national Board of Governors of the American Jewish Committee.

According to a news release, his first task will be “to broaden and deepen J Street’s nationwide network of major donors and activists into a political action network that will drive the organization’s lobbying and advocacy operation.” He will also begin to prepare for the 2010 election cycle.

“For me, all the pieces came together in this position — the political work, the Jewish community connection and the opportunity to contribute to a peaceful and secure Israel,” Kohl said in the release.

Kohl and his family plan to move to D.C. in June.
