Miriam C. Miringoff

Milwaukee native Miriam C. Miringoff (nee Chutkow) of Bayside died July 4. She was 90.

A 1933 graduate of Shorewood High School, she attended Milwaukee State Teachers College. She resided in Appleton from 1941 until 1984 when she returned to Milwaukee following the death of her husband David Miringoff in 1983.

She and her husband were fixtures in the business community in Appleton. According to daughter Judi Ketten, they worked together for over 40 years. “She was a smart businesswoman with a dynamic personality who was ahead of her time. Energetic and outgoing, she possessed an incredible memory, especially for people,” her daughter said.

She was a member of Moses Montefiore Synagogue in Appleton and “was a generous benefactor in our Jewish community,” Ketten said.

In addition to husband David, she was preceded in death by sister Sylvia C. (Abram) Levine. In addition to daughter Judi (Michael, D.D.S.) Ketten of Fox Point, she is survived by son Jim (Joan) Miringoff of Carlsbad, Calif., seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Rabbi David Cohen and Cantor Miriam Eskenasy officiated at graveside services July 6 in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Memorial contributions to the Miriam Miringoff Fund at Congregation Sinai would be appreciated by the family.

Mary Slutzky

Native Milwaukeean Mary Slutzky (nee Kulakowsky) died July 17 at the age of 78.
She graduated from North Division High School in 1944, and earned an associate degree in education from Milwaukee Area Technical College in 1979.

She worked as a library and general paraprofessional aide for the Milwaukee Public Schools system at Townsend Street School. After earning her degree, she worked for teachers at Steuben Middle School, doing clerical work and tutoring students, her family said.

She was a member of Temple Menorah and the Hornstein-Katz Auxiliary No. 701, Jewish War Veterans, where she served as president for approximately nine years. She enjoyed playing mahjong.

She was preceded in death by husband Samuel Slutzky in 1993, brother Max (Faye) Kaye and sisters Norma (Milton) Schwartzberg and Anna (Jack) Bloom.

She is survived by daughters Ellen (Lavern) Wiebe of Aurora, Ill., and Sharon (Dennis) Behr of Wauwatosa; son Michael (Shari Snow) Slutzky of Wauwatosa; sisters Sara Sallein of Sun City West, Ariz., and Doris Sternlieb of Mequon; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Rabbi Isaac Lerer officiated at funeral services July 19. Burial was in Second Home Cemetery.
