Israeli chefs Gili Altman and Yehuda Ninniyo went head-to-head during a “Shakshuka Shakedown” on Jan. 8. Ninniyo was crowned the winner by six votes before a crowd of about 130 people. Here, Ninniyo cooks at Congregation Beth Israel Ner Tamid as people look on. The men visited from Milwaukee and Madison’s partnership region in Israel, the Sovev Kinneret (region around the Sea of Galilee). The Milwaukee Jewish Federation’s Young Leadership Division partnered with Young Jewish Adults of Milwaukee and Young Jewish Professionals Milwaukee to bring “Hipstory Hanukkah” to Milwaukee. Participants celebrated Chanukah with Israeli artist, Amit Shimoni, creator of Hipstory. Hipstory is an art series that depicts famous political and popular cultural figures as hipsters. The International Lion of Judah Conference in Miami, in January, was co-chaired by Joan Lubar. Sue Strait received the prestigious Kipnis-Wilson/Friedland volunteer award at the conference. About 1,400 women in attendance raised $36 million for the Federation system. Milwaukee Lions of Judah attended.
