This year, I choose to remember the why. Life can be challenging. There are days when the things in front of me feel overwhelming, and even the next step can seem insurmountable. In those moments, I’ve learned that I need to stop and remember why I’m taking that step in the first place. For me, the “why” is what gives me that extra push. Whether it’s navigating life with MS, fundraising for a cure, doing my best at work, or nurturing the relationships that matter most to me, remembering why reminds me that difficult things are often difficult because they matter.
Sometimes my “why” is the people I love. Sometimes it’s knowing that speaking up can make things a little easier for the person who comes after me. Sometimes it’s simply refusing to let a difficult day define what comes next. The High Holidays give us an opportunity to reflect on where we’ve been and where we want to go. For me, that doesn’t mean pretending the year ahead will always be easy. It means reminding myself of what matters when it isn’t. So, as I enter this new year, I choose to remember the “why” — because when the “how” feels impossible, the “why” feels inspired.
