MILWAUKEE — Michael E. Friedman, a longtime tax professional and former senior tax partner at Ernst & Young, received the Wisconsin Institute of Certified Public Accountants’ 2026 Distinguished Career Award, the organization announced.
The award was presented at the WICPA’s annual banquet on May 8, 2026, and recognizes Friedman’s contributions to the accounting profession over more than 40 years.
Friedman currently serves as tax director at Scribner, Cohen and Company. During his career, he has emphasized mentoring young professionals, many of whom have advanced to partnership positions.
He also served as president of the WICPA Educational Foundation, where he helped expand scholarship opportunities for accounting students. Gov. Tony Evers appointed Friedman to the Wisconsin Accounting Examining Board, which regulates more than 10,000 active certified public accountants in the state. Friedman later served as chairman of the board.
