The Democratic Party of Wisconsin Jewish Caucus has condemned the act of violence on the Islamic Center in San Diego, and called for more religious protection everywhere, according to a statement issued on May 18.
Three people were killed after two gunmen opened fire outside of a mosque in San Diego, according to the New York Times. Two teenage attackers were also found dead.
The caucus said it was “horrified and heartbroken” with the incident and expressed solidarity with the Muslim community.
In the statement, the caucus compares the mosque shooting to recent attacks on Jewish places of worship, stating that hate towards any religious group is harmful to everyone.
The organization called upon federal, state and local officials to investigate the attack, prosecute those responsible and work to better protect places of worship.
The Democratic Party of Wisconsin Jewish Democrats said they will continue to advocate for every community to ensure people can worship, learn and gather without fear.
