Family Launches NaomiCooks.com

MILWAUKEE — A new website, NaomiCooks.com, has launched to preserve and celebrate the work of Milwaukee-based syndicated food writer and cookbook author Naomi Arbit, 98, whose recipes and columns reached more than 200 community newspapers nationwide.

Her work helped thousands celebrate the Jewish Holidays and appeared through the Jewish Telegraphic Agency. The site is at NaomiCooks.com.

Created by her family, the site serves as a digital archive of Arbit’s seven cookbooks and a growing collection of her published newspaper articles and food columns. The project was designed to ensure that her recipes — many of which became staples at holiday tables and family celebrations — remain accessible to new generations of home cooks.

Arbit, a former cooking instructor and member of the International Association of Culinary Professionals, studied at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris. Her culinary career began locally, with roots in Atwater Elementary School and Shorewood High School, before expanding into a nationally syndicated presence. Her family noted that her approachable style combined elegance with practicality, helping readers prepare impressive meals without intimidation.

Over the decades, her cookbooks — including Gourmet Appetizer Cookbook, Gourmet on the Go Cookbook, and The Gourmet Touch — developed devoted followings. Family reported that many readers have since sought out used copies online, sharing stories of worn-out pages, lost copies replaced after decades, and recipes that became family traditions.

NaomiCooks.com allows visitors to explore her cookbooks in digital format, browse archived newspaper clippings, and rediscover recipes that have stood the test of time.

“This website is a family project,” said her family in a statement. “We wanted to preserve her work and celebrate the impact she has had in kitchens across the country. Her recipes have been part of countless celebrations — holidays, Shabbat dinners, and everyday meals — for generations.”

The site continues to expand as additional clippings and archival materials are added.
