Christian Israel advocate to speak in Whitefish Bay

A Jewish event in Whitefish Bay will feature a 23-year-old Christian – who supports Israel – as its speaker.

Evelyn Eggers, who works for the Israel on Campus Coalition supporting pro-Israel college students, will speak on March 8 about her experience as a Christian in the Midwest, involved in Israel advocacy. Her work helps college students navigate questions about Israel, with guidance on how to speak about and defend Israel. The event is called Inspiring Voices for Israel, held by Jewish National Fund-USA, a historic nonprofit organization that supports the development of land and infrastructure in Israel.

Eggers first traveled to Israel in December 2024 through Caravan for Democracy, a program that brings non‑Jewish U.S. college students on educational trips, and she returned in December 2025 as a staff member for a second program trip. Eggers’ path to Israel advocacy as a college student was not without discomfort.

Eggers grew up with a love of Israel embedded in her family home. Her grandmother put an Israeli flag outside her house, and when her neighbor stole it, she put up two more. Her family prayed for Israel at dinner and held Passover Seder. “I thought [Passover] was a Christian tradition,” Eggers said with a laugh, in an interview with the Chronicle.

Although Eggers grew up feeling support for Israel, she felt she had little ability to articulate or defend that support as a college student at the University of Indiana in 2020. She ended up at Hillel, looking for answers. “I knocked on the front door, and I was so nervous,” Eggers said. “One of my sorority sisters said, ‘This is a place that welcomes everybody’.”

At Hillel, Eggers found a community that welcomed her and her question about Israel, and she said she became the “the Christian kid at every Shabbat dinner.”

Over time, she became increasingly involved in Jewish life on campus, co-authoring university legislation adopting the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance definition of antisemitism and advocating for Hillel and Chabad representation in student government.

Her advocacy deepened through the Israel on Campus Coalition, where she now works as a fellow. Eggers recently returned from Israel after helping lead a mission.

“There are a lot of things that I didn’t know before, regarding what Israel stands for,” Eggers said. “The fact that it’s a safe place for the Christian community, and it’s also the birthplace of my faith as a Christian. I can visit it and experience the beauty of it, and I’ll be welcomed by Israelis with open arms.”

Jewish National Fund-USA President Deb Lust Zaluda emphasized the importance of fostering allyship.

“Unity with our non-Jewish allies is not optional — it is essential,” Zaluda said. “Through programs such as our Caravan for Democracy program, we foster meaningful dialogue, educate future leaders, and cultivate enduring relationships grounded in shared democratic values.”
