Mara Balinovsky (nee Zilberman) died on Aug. 1st, 2025, at the age of 92.
Beloved wife of the late Sam Balinovsky. Loving mother of Gary (the late Natasha) Balinovsky. Further survived by other relatives and friends.

Beatrice Beder
Beatrice Beder (nee Gelber) died peacefully on Aug. 4, 2025 (10 Av 5785) in Milwaukee after a brief period in hospice care.
She was 101 years old. Her husband, Sy, died in 2022, after 78 years of very happy marriage.
Bebe leaves behind her son Jay (Dena) and daughter Jodi (Jimmy), grandchildren Daniel (Hannah), Jesse (Caroline), Naftali (Ashley), Swami Adi, and Becky (Manuel), and eight great-grandchildren.
Bebe grew up in New York City, where she and Sy spent most of their lives, and where she worked as a school secretary. She was known from childhood for her comedic timing and her love of song and dance. To the end, she retained her humor, terrific pitch and rhythm, and a profound knowledge of the Great American Songbook. The daughter of a union activist, she retained a deep sense of justice, fairness, and equality. Always curious, she never assumed she was right.
She was fortunate to have a very close and loving family circle, in which she was the oldest of her generation. She and Sy were beloved elders of Town and Village Synagogue in NYC, always extending a hand to newcomers. They were politically active, including a period of draft counseling at their synagogue during the Vietnam War.
Funeral services held at Town and Village Synagogue in Manhattan. Interment was in New York. Memorial donations to Ovation.org, TandV.org, or social justice causes appreciated. Goodman-Bensman Whitefish Bay Funeral Home assisted the family.
David Alan Bordow
David Alan Bordow died July 25, 2025.
He was born May 2, 1954, and is survived by his sister Mimi and son EB, step-daughter Cassandra Rodriguez, and nieces and nephews Jeffrey, Melanie, Arielle, and Ross, and by countless friends, confidants, and clients. He was proceeded in death by his brother Ira, and his mother and father, Perle and Milton. David’s family extends their sincere gratitude to the staff at Ascension Columbia St. Mary’s Hospital, and all the nurses and aides at Ascension who provided him friendship and positivity. His family also wishes the greatest thanks to two of his best friends, Robb Marcus and Al Polan, who provided care, comfort, and counsel near the end of his life. Dr. Vladimir Kushnaryov died July 22, 2025, at the age of 94.

Richard J. Podell
Richard J. Podell died peacefully, in his home on Monday, Aug.11 at the age of 81.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Penny Podell (nee Mayerson), former Milwaukee County Supervisor and currently of Azura Memory Care in Fox Point.
Devoted father of Todd (Lisa) Podell of Fort Worth, Texas, and Tasha (Aaron) Tilock of Falls Church, Virginia, and cherished grandfather of Garrett and Harris Podell and Xander, Gavin and Spencer Tilock. As a dedicated nephew, uncle, great-uncle, and brother-in-law, Dick is further survived by many close cousins and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Ruth (nee Sherkow) Podell; his sister, Judith Podell; his brother, James Podell; and his stepmother, Della Nickoll Podell.
Growing up in Milwaukee instilled in Dick a lifelong passion for the Milwaukee Brewers, Wisconsin Badgers, and the Green Bay Packers. Dick was also an avid fan of Marquette University basketball. He loved to speak about his teams with everyone who would listen.
Dick was a graduate of Nicolet High School in Glendale, received his undergraduate degree from Colgate University in Hamilton, New York, and received his law degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
As a family law attorney of over 50 years, Dick made significant contributions to the legal profession. He served as president of the American Bar Association Family Law Section, chair of the Family Law Sections of the State Bar of Wisconsin and Milwaukee Bar Associations, and as the president of the Wisconsin Chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. He was a frequent lecturer and has spoken at the Milwaukee Chapter of the American Inns of Court, Marquette University Law School, University of Wisconsin Law School, Harvard Law School, bar associations throughout the United States, and many other distinguished organizations. Despite his work demands, he never hesitated to help out a friend or family member, or to give a good restaurant recommendation.
In addition to his professional achievements and accolades, spending time with his family and friends gave him an immense amount of joy. “Yes” was his favorite word, especially for his grandchildren. He traveled the world and truly lived life to the fullest. His memory will forever be a blessing for everyone who knew him.

Susan (Schuckit, Naimon) Winebrenner
A proud Milwaukee native, Susan Winebrenner lived a life filled with purpose, curiosity, and love. She was best known as a trendsetting educator, author, and trainer who dedicated her career to showing teachers how to reach both gifted students and those who faced learning challenges. Her groundbreaking books — “Teaching Gifted Kids in Today’s Classroom” and ”Teaching Kids with Learning Difficulties in Today’s Classroom” — became essential tools for educators, reshaping classrooms across the country and around the world. Through her writing and training, she touched the lives of thousands of teachers and students, leaving behind a legacy of inclusion, innovation, and lasting impact.
But Susan was far more than her professional achievements. She had an adventurous spirit and a zest for life that took her far beyond the classroom. She was an avid sailor who explored waters all over the world, from local lakes to distant seas, finding freedom and joy wherever the wind carried her. She loved travel, discovering new cultures and places, and she had a deep appreciation for nature in all its beauty. Music was another constant source of joy — her family and friends will always smile remembering how much she loved singing along to Neil Diamond, whose songs became part of the soundtrack of her life.
Susan is survived by her sister Wendy (Schuckit) Saltzberg, her brother Dr. Marc Schuckit, her daughter Kari Naimon, her blended family daughter, grandchildren and great-grandchildren who she loved as her own, and by her devoted caretaker Tito Jude Callueng, whose kindness and care brought her immense comfort and joy in her final years.
She will be remembered not only for what she accomplished, but for how she lived: with compassion, dedication, adventure, and a deep belief in the potential of every person.

Jeffrey Howard Zemel
Jeffrey Howard Zemel died due to a major stroke on Thursday, July 24, 2025. Born in 1960 with Down’s Syndrome, his enlightened parents Lou and Lita nurtured him to bypass his disabilities. Jeff was a vociferous Chicago Cubs fan, a reliable employee, and a world traveler. He was also a devoted boyfriend, a gregarious favorite of people everywhere, and the rock and glue of his family.
Dear son of the late Lita and Lou Zemel. Beloved brother Dean (Debbie Rosenthal) Zemel, Gale (David Mausner) Zemel, and Ellen Zemel. Cherished uncle of Faye Zemel (Rubi Hayim), Max Mausner, Marc Zemel (Julia Lachman), Dvorit Mausner, Samuel Mausner, and Laib Zemel.
