Here’s how to make a great Seder plate for Passover! Work with your family and have fun doing it. Important tip: Always have an adult help with cutting, gluing, and using Mod Podge!
Seder Plate project
Materials needed:
- A wooden circle (8 or 12 inches in diameter)
- Tempera paint (different colors)
- Mod Podge (for gluing and sealing)
- Paint brush (for spreading Mod Podge)
- Construction paper
- Printout of images of the food items
- Scissors (with adult help)
Process:
- Prepare Your Wooden Circle: Start with your wooden circle. This will be the base of your Seder plate! You can find wooden circles at craft stores or online.

- Crumpled Paper Painting: Take a piece of construction paper and crumple it to make a ball. Apply some paint directly onto the wooden plate. Dip the crumpled ball into the tempera paint, then gently dab it all over the wooden circle to spread the paint evenly. Use different colors to create a variety of textures and effects. Cover the entire plate and allow the paint to dry.

- Cut the images of food items:
- Maror (bitter herb)
- Karpas (vegetable)
- Charoset (sweet mixture)
- Z’roa (shank bone)
- Chazeret (second bitter herb)
- Beitzah (roasted egg)
- Glue the food item images: Using a paint brush, spread Mod Podge on the entire plate and glue each of the six items, evenly spaced.

- Seal the plate: Once everything is dry, apply a layer of Mod Podge over the painted wooden plate to give it a shiny finish and protect your design. Let it dry completely.
Show off your plate: Once the Mod Podge is dry, your Seder plate is ready! You can proudly display it to your family and friends.
