JCC Water Park will close after this summer

This will be the last summer the Jewish Community Center will operate the Hy & Richard Smith JCC Water Park. Summer 2024 operations will continue as scheduled through Labor Day.

The water park has consistently operated at a six-figure deficit to the overall agency budget, and the updates needed would require a significant capital investment from the community, according to a mass email sent to members.

The ongoing national lifeguard shortage and long-term economic impact of COVID-19 have made it difficult to address financial and staffing challenges for the water park, according to the JCC.

The Board of Directors of the Harry & Rose Samson Family JCC approved the motion in a unanimous decision. The board and staff are working on possible options for what the space’s next chapter entails.

There will be a community celebration at the JCC Water Park on Aug. 11.
