Woodale Crossing, in Brown Deer, will serve people with disabilities

Jewish Family Services is building a new affordable senior housing community called Woodale Crossing on West Woodale Avenue in Brown Deer. A quarter of the units are designated for those with mental or physical disabilities.

The project is expected to cost $18.5 million. Through the Milwaukee County Housing Division, $1 million in HOME funds — federal grants to help local governments create affordable housing — and $2 million in American Rescue Plan Act funds are part of the funding the project, according to James Mathy, housing administrator for Milwaukee’s Department of Health and Human Services. Several partner organizations are also assisting.

“Woodale Crossing demonstrates our ongoing commitment to addressing the safe, affordable housing shortage across Milwaukee,” said John Yopps, Jewish Family Services president and CEO.

Jewish Family Services expects the project to be completed by Sept. 1, 2025, according to a spokesperson.
