“The Ghosts of Rose Hill,” by R.M. Romero, published by Peachtree Teen

When Ilana Lopez’s parents force her to spend the summer with her aunt in Prague, things don’t go as planned. Instead of focusing on her SAT prep, Ilana is drawn to an overgrown Jewish cemetery, which she works hard to restore. Among the graves, she meets a ghost. As she travels around the city, she encounters a shadowless man who tempts her with a violin, her true passion, which she had to leave at home. Playing the man’s violin leads to consequences she could never have imagined. As Ilana meets more ghosts, she’s determined to free their souls, trapped by the shadowless man. This beautifully written, fast-paced haunting free verse poetry novel is engaging and impossible to put down.
