Meredith Tax remembered 

Meredith Tax, a Milwaukee native and prominent feminist and activist, died Sept. 25, 2022. She was 80.  

Tax graduated from Whitefish Bay High School in 1960, then went on to Brandeis University and Birkbeck College, University of London, according to her website.   

Tax published many books and articles. In 2016, she released a book, “A Road Unforeseen: Women Fight the Islamic State.” Thirty-six years before that, in 1980, she published her first book, “The Rising of the Women: Feminist Solidarity and Class Conflict, 1880-1917.”  

Tax was a “second-wave” feminist focused on class, making her a distinct voice, according to a New York Times account.
