Bar mitzvah

Layton Lal

Layton Hans Lal was called to the Torah as a bar mitzvah on Nov. 20, 2021, in person at Congregation Sinai.

Layton is the son of Dave and Alysandra (Schwarz) Lal, brother of Aidan Lal and grandson of Gerard and Jody Schwarz, Lillo Way, Raj Lal and the late Brigita Lal. Layton’s Torah portion was “Parashat Vayishlach” from the Book of Genesis.

Layton is in seventh grade at Whitefish Bay Middle School. He is also performing in the show “Charlie Brown Christmas” in the role of Pig Peg with First Stage Theater.  Layton loves acting but is also passionate about the environment. For his Mitzvah Project he is creating a series of TikTok videos to teach people about animals who are threatened with extinction, raising awareness of the issue, and possibly raising money for the World Wildlife Fund. He plans to continue building his site, @expedition_extinction.

Layton and his family would like to thank Rabbi David Cohen, Cantor Richard Newman, Rick Paler, Karen Berk, Jen Friedman, Jeri Danz and the entire Sinai family and faculty.
