Tuesday, April 6 

Tucson history tour 

Come along with Jewish Museum Milwaukee as they virtually tour Tucson’s Jewish History Museum & Holocaust History Center on April 6 at noon. ASYLUM/ASILO weaves a dialogue from the personal histories of individuals who have fled horrific situations in their home countries only to face an asylum system on the US-Mexico border turned into chaos that’s of the government’s own making, according to organizers. Paired with “Clamor in the Desert / Clamor en el Desierto” a Sukkah installation by Argentina-based artist Mirta Kupferminc. Register at JewishMuseumMilwaukee.org/Events. 

Antisemitism and Advocacy  

Jewish Family Services invites you to join a virtual presentation on Anti-Semitism and Advocacy April 6 at 2 p.m. The presentation will cover services available for victims who suffered from antisemitism or a hate crime. JFS offers comprehensive, advocacy and case management services to support the emotional and physical wellbeing of crime victims and their families. Book discussion: Caste 

In Caste, the Pulitzer Prize-winning, bestselling author Isabel Wilkerson examines the unspoken caste system that has shaped America and shows how our lives today are still defined by a hierarchy of human divisions. Taste of Memories  

Parternship2Gether Sovev Kinneret, the Milwaukee Jewish Federation and St. Paul Jewish Federation present a cooking and commemoration series called Taste of Memories. In the edition on April 11 at noon, you will be joining the Ashkenazi Levy Family as they bake the Chocolate Pound Cake that Erez always had for his birthday. Yom HaShoah  

The annual Yom HaShoah ceremony brings people together to remember those who perished in the Shoah, to recognize those who resisted, and to honor the survivors and their legacy for future generations on April 11 at 3 p.m. The Milwaukee Jewish Federation’s Israel Center event will feature Dr. Alfred Munzer. Dr. Munzer was born in the Netherlands during World War II and lost his father and two sisters in the Holocaust. He spent the first four years of his life hidden from Nazi occupiers with an Indonesian family residing in The Hague. He and his mother immigrated to the United States in 1958. For the past eight years, Dr. Munzer has volunteered at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. Tuesday, April 13 

Yom HaZikaron 

Join in honoring Israel’s victims of terror and fallen soldiers and veterans of the Israel Defense Forces and other Israeli security services on April 13 at 6 p.m. with the Milwaukee Jewish Federation’s Israel Center. This event will feature Professor Hanna Yablonka. Yablonka is an Israeli author, historian and scholar. Born in Tel Aviv, she is a professor of Holocaust Studies at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev and staff historian for the Ghetto Fighters’ House. In 2002, Yad Vashem gave Yablonka the Buchman Foundation Memorial Prize for her book, The State of Israel vs. Adolf Eichmann. A Yom HaZikaron Q&A with Milwaukee Community Shaliach Uria Roth will begin at 7 p.m., immediately following the ceremony. Tekes Ma’avar 

Join the Milwaukee Jewish Federation’s Israel Center in partnership with Congregation Bnei Israel Ner Tamid for Tekes Ma’avar on April 14 at 6 p.m. Tekes Ma’avar is the transitional ceremony between Yom Ha’atzmaut and Yom Hazikaron. Wok Hard to Fight MS 

Multiple sclerosis doesn’t stop, and Wok Hard to Fight MS doesn’t either. Join Sarah and Milt Hwang, members of Congregation Sinai, for their fundraising event to support the fight against MS which is being held virtually on April 17 at 6 p.m. The event is not affiliated with the congregation. Join B’nai B’rith Youth Organization for an interactive virtual evening on April 17 at 8 p.m. Each registration includes a showbox that you won’t open until you’re live on the Zoom call that evening. In the Rabbi’s study  

Join Congregation Sinai for the “In the Rabbi’s Study” on Sunday, April 18 at 10 a.m. This program is loosely modeled on PBS’s “In the Actor’s Studio”, where Rabbi David Cohen interviews and converses with a series of thoughtful speakers. Next up – A conversation Cantor Rebecca Robins of Temple Sinai in Washington, D.C. Come hear Rebecca share what she has been doing since her time at Congregation Sinai in Milwaukee. Yom HaAtzmaut 

Enjoy Wisconsin’s largest celebration of Israel at a virtual concert live from Tel Aviv on Sunday, April 18, at 2 p.m., when the Milwaukee Jewish Federation’s Israel Center will be welcoming Kobi Oz. Oz will perform a 45-minute concert created especially for Milwaukee’s Yom HaAtzmaut celebration. Formerly part of the popular Israeli bands Sfatayim and the Teapacks, Oz is a beloved Israeli singer, songwriter and keyboardist. A Q&A with Oz will immediately follow the concert. A Kibbutz Childhood 

Join the Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center on April 20 at 7:30 p.m. for their author event on “Growing Up Below Sea Level: A Kibbutz Childhood. This is a memoir composed of linked stories about growing up on a kibbutz in Israel in the 1950s and 60s, when children spent most of their time, from birth on, in a Children’s House. These stories focus on the world of children, but also offer a window into the lives of the adult kibbutz members, including Holocaust survivors. The Color of Law 

Join the Jewish Museum Milwaukee in listening to Richard Rothstein and Lila Corwin Berman discuss contemporary racial segregation across the United States in The Color of Law: A Forgotten History of Hour Our Government Segregated America on Wednesday, April 21, at 5 p.m. The panelists will dig into the history of public housing projects, suburbanization, and the actions of the federal housing administration and then interrogate the racial segregation and income gap in America today as a byproduct of explicit government policies at the local, state and federal levels. Touching on the negative effects of these policies on African Americans and the United States as a whole, Rothstein and Berman will address how Jewish Americans specifically benefited from and suffered as a result of these policies. Tapestry tour 

Ted Comet explores the five larger-than-life tapestries woven by his late wife Shoshana as she reflected on her experience during the Holocaust on April 27 at 12 p.m. The tapestries show the horrors she and others suffered during those years, something she kept hidden inside until she found art as an outlet to tell her story. Each tapestry is a testament to the power of the mind to turn trauma into creativity and healing energy. This is a Jewish Museum Milwaukee event, register at JewishMuseumMilwaukee.org/Events.

Taste and Tradition 

Cook with a Chef!  The Harry and Rose Samson Family Community Center presents Third Coast Provision’s Chefs as they take us through their unique “Green Machine” pizza from scratch on April 29 at 5 p.m.  Sister restaurant Flour Child will walk you through their tips and tricks to make that delicious homemade pizza. Buenos Aires  

The hub of Jewish life in Argentina is the AMIA – Asociación Mutual Israelita Argentina in Buenos Aires. Join the Jewish Museum Milwaukee on Tuesday, May 4, at noon for a virtual tour highlighting the physical and historical significance of this Jewish Community Center and content from the exhibit, Sites to Remember and Honor, exploring the monuments and works of art dedicated to victims of the Holocaust, the 1992 bombing of the Israeli Embassy in Buenos Aires, and the 1994 bombing of the AMIA.
