The first “Fisher House” in Wisconsin was dedicated in April, according to Fisher House Foundation, which offers its nationwide network of housing for veterans and their families who visit a VA medical facility.
The home is to provide lodging for up to 16 families of veterans and military personnel at no cost, allowing them to be close to their loved ones at the most stressful time – during hospitalization at the Milwaukee VA Medical Center.
Milwaukee-Harmony Lodge No. 261, a predominantly Jewish service organization, raised funding with other Masonic groups to open and support the local Fisher House, said Charles Wallens of Bayside, current treasurer of Milwaukee-Harmony.
