Joyzele Yanow Howards, 80, of Glendale, who enjoyed spending time with her family, died Dec. 27, 2015. She was 80.
Born in Milwaukee on Feb. 16, 1935, she graduated from Rufus King High School and University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she earned a bachelor of science.
A member of Congregation Shalom of Fox Point, she was the honored recipient of the Pasch Award for establishing the Congregation Shalom Library and served as financial secretary for Congregation Shalom Sisterhood.
She was a lifetime member of Hadassah, serving as vice president and executive board chair. She was a life member of the Mount Sinai Auxiliary and was recording secretary. She has served on the Milwaukee Jewish Federation board, the Nicolet advisory board, Good Hope PTA as vice president, and as a Brownie leader. She was a proud life member of the Wisconsin Alumni Association.
A teacher-librarian, she spent two decades cataloging the libraries at Hillel Academy and the Milwaukee Association for Jewish Education. She also served as librarian at Madison East High School and Steuben Junior High School.
She enjoyed spending time with her family, reading, theater and traveling.
She is survived by Lawrence A. Howards and is beloved mother of Ianne (Steven) Koritzinsky and Mari (significant other Darren Heitz) Howards. Treasured grandmother of Alanna and Jeremy Koritzinsky.
Burial was at Spring Hill Cemetery on Dec. 30, 2015. The rabbi was Noah Chertkoff and the funeral home was Goodman-Bensman. Memorial contributions may be sent to the MACC Fund or Congregation Shalom.
