Chronicling History: Champs of Lapham

This 1918 photo shows the Lapham Athletic Club football team. It comes from the Larry Lederman collection at the Jewish Museum Milwaukee. The team won the championship in the Independent Football League of Milwaukee during the 1917-18 season. According to a March 16, 1923, Wisconsin Jewish Chronicle article, the Lapham Athletic Club was a non-sectarian organization but was “predominantly Jewish in personnel.”
