The Jewish Sports Heritage Association has announced that it will be giving its Lifetime Achievement Award to Milwaukeean Allan “Bud” Selig, the ninth commissioner of professional baseball.
He will be sharing the award with David Stern, the fourth commissioner of the National Basketball Association.
In its news release, the JSPA said that Selig “oversaw baseball through the 1994 strike, the introduction of the wild card, interleague play and the merging of the National League and American Leagues under the Office of the Commissioner. Selig introduced revenue sharing and he is credited with the financial turnaround of baseball.”
In its release, the JSPA describes itself as “a not-for-profit education organization dedicated to educating the public about the role Jewish men and women have played in sports, an area of Jewish accomplishment often overlooked.” It is presenting its first annual awards this year.
