Joan Barnett

          Milwaukee native Joan Barnett, nee Schneider, of Fox Point died March 20. She was 87.

          She was a member of Congregation Shalom.

          Her husband, Dr. Sheldon Barnett, died in 1990. She is survived by daughters Barbara (Mark) Ratke and Dr. Nancy A. Barnett; son Dr. James (Nancy) Barnett; sister Sari (Dr. Carl) Frieden; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

          Blane Goodman Funeral Service handled arrangements. Rabbi Ronald Shapiro officiated at the funeral on March 23. Burial was in Second Home Cemetery.

          The family suggests memorial contributions to the Milwaukee Jewish Food Pantry c/o the Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center; or the Make-A-Wish Foundation, 13195 W. Hampton Ave., Butler, WI 53007.

 
Esther Lansky

          Milwaukeean Esther Lansky, nee Kahn, died March 8. She was 93.

          She attended Washington High School and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She worked as a dietician.

          She was a member of the former Beth El Ner Tamid Synagogue and its Sisterhood. She also belonged to Hadassah, Pioneer Women and the Jewish War Veterans.

          According to her family, she enjoyed reading, bridge, crafts and golf.

          Her husband, Leon Lansky, died in 2002. She is survived by daughters Robin (Dr. Bernard) Cohen of Milwaukee and Judith (Ken Gould) Lansky of Little Rock, Ark.; sister Annalee Sosman of Milwaukee and brother Dr. Leonard (Thelme) Kahn of New York City; four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

          Goodman-Bensman Whitefish Bay Funeral Home handled arrangements. Rabbi Levi Emmer officiated at the funeral on March 10. Burial was in Agudas Achim Cemetery.

          The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Torah Academy of Milwaukee or the Jewish Museum Milwaukee.

 
Bess Rosen Lichterman

          Bess Rosen Lichterman, nee Blacher, of Glendale died March 18. She was 88.

          She was born in Appleton and came to Milwaukee in 1944. She was a homemaker.

          She was a member of Beth El Ner Tamid Synagogue and active in its Sisterhood. She was also a member of Women’s American ORT, the Jewish War Veterans and Hadassah.

          According to her family, she enjoyed cooking, bowling, golf, mahjong and dancing.

          She was preceded in death by husbands Earl Rosen and Julius Lichterman. She is survived by daughters Sheryl (Claudio) Pelc and Lynn (Bill) Hurwitz; son Perry (Robbi) Rosen; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

          Blane Goodman Funeral Service handled arrangements. Granddaughter Rabbi Julie Adler and her husband Rabbi Amitai Adler officiated at the funeral on March 20. Burial was in Mound Zion Cemetery.

 
Cheryl Lubotsky

          Milwaukee native Cheryl Lubotsky, nee Riger, of Hillsboro Beach, Fla., died March 23 of a long illness. She was 69.

          She graduated from Custer High School in 1963. Along with her surviving husband, John D. Lubotsky, she worked in the family business, Warehouse Shoes, and helped it grow into a chain of more than 30 stores in three states, according to the family.

          She was a member of Congregation Beth Israel, then in the mid-1990s Congregation Agudas Achim Chabad.

          She was also involved in Brynwood Country Club, Boca Pointe Country Club and Mequon Jewish Preschool; was a lifetime member of Hadassah; was a board member of the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America, Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin and the Medical College of Wisconsin.

          According to her family, she was an avid golfer and player of mahjong and canasta, and enjoyed cooking.

          In addition to her husband, she is survived by daughters Lisa (Roger) Jubas, Andrea (Thomas) Rabenn and Sari Schiff; brother Richard (Lia) Riger and sister Sandy (Phillip) Hohlweck; and nine grandchildren.

          Funeral and burial were in Florida. Eden Funeral Services handled arrangements. Rabbi Dovid Rapoport officiated at the funeral on March 24. Burial was in Star of David Cemetery.

          The family suggests memorial contributions to Mequon Jewish Preschool.

 
Lillian C. Mazur

          Philadelphia native Lillian C. Mazur, nee Wasserman, of Glendale, died Feb. 7 of natural causes. She was 97.

          She graduated from Washington High School in 1935. With her pharmacist husband she operated Mazur’s Ideal Pharmacy in Milwaukee.

          She was a member of Congregations Emanu-El B’ne Jeshurun and Anshai Lebowitz. She was a member of NA’AMAT and the AZO pharmaceutical fraternity.

          Her husband, Maurice M. Mazur, died in 2000; and a daughter, Sue Elaine Mazur, died in 2004. She is survived by daughters Lynne Milner and Jane (Irving) Suesskind; sons Howard (Judith) Mazur and Michael (Jill Eder) Mazur; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

          The family suggests memorial contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association or Planned Parenthood.

 
Pearl Reiner

          Pearl Reiner, nee Langer, of Cedarburg, died April 2 of natural causes. She was 88.

          She was born in Chicago, and came to Milwaukee from Florida.

          Her husband, Marvin Reiner, died in 2002.

          She is survived by daughter Phyllis (Mel) Pinsker; sons Larry (Bonnie) Reiner and David (Lynn) Reiner; brother Jerry (Barbara) Langer; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

          Chicago Jewish Funerals handled arrangements. Cantor Faryn Rudnick officiated at the funeral on April 6. Burial was in Shalom Memorial Park Cemetery.

          The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Floor 17; Chicago, IL 60601.

 
Harriet Anita Skorton

          Harriet Anita Skorton, nee Fisher, of Brown Deer died March 15 of natural causes. She was 83.

          She was a Milwaukee native who attended North Division High School. She was a homemaker.

          She belonged to Beth El Ner Tamid Synagogue, B’nai B’rith and Women’s American ORT. She enjoyed cooking, crocheting, knitting, mahjong, gardening, crafting and recreational games.

          Her husband, Perry Eugene Skorton, died in 2005. She is survived by daughters Debra J. Rothberg of Nashua, N.H., and Sandra R. Skorton-Reynolds of Albuquerque, N.M.; son Lawrence J. Skorton of Shorewood; brother Jack David Fisher of California; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

          Goodman-Bensman Whitefish Bay Funeral Home handled arrangements. Rabbi Gil-Ezer Lerer officiated at the funeral on March 19. Burial was in Mound Zion Cemetery.

          The family suggests memorial contributions to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
