In conjunction with its exhibit on “Founders & Visionaries: Wisconsin Jewish Artists from the Milwaukee Art Museum,” the Jewish Museum Milwaukee will present some art-themed events in May.
On Wednesday, May 6, 7 p.m., the JMM will host a panel discussion by members of the Milwaukee Jewish Artists’ Lab. This project of the Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center brings together nearly two dozen artists in different mediums to discuss, create and elevate Jewish art.
This fourth year theme for its June exhibit is “water.” In advance, the JMM will present several lab artists talking about the project and providing a preview of the works. Admission is free, RSVP by May 4.
On Monday, May 11, 7 p.m., the JMM will feature a presentation on “Joseph Friebert: The Artist as Social Conscience,” featuring Susan Rossen, daughter of Friebert and Betsy Ritz Friebert.
Cost is free for JMM members, $5 for non-members. RSVP by May 7.
On Wednesday, May 20, the JMM will present a studio tour and discussion with local artists Richard and Nina Edelman. Nina will discuss her textile creations, and Richard his metal sculptures including “SHOFAR KRAKOW.” (See March 2015 issue.)
Cost is $5 for members, $10 for non-members. RSVP by May 15. Space is limited.
Finally, on Thursday, May 21, 7 p.m., the museum will host a “JMM After Hours” event, in partnership with the Milwaukee Jewish Federation’s Young Leadership Division and the JCC’s Young Jewish Adults of Milwaukee.
Food and drink will be provided, with dietary laws observed. The event will include an exhibit tour and a chance for participants to make their own art.
Cost is $8 per person; to participate in the art making, RSPV by May 18.
