Congregation Shalom will hold a weekend in honor of Rabbi Ronald Shapiro and his wife Judy on the occasion of his retirement.
The Chronicle announced in 2014 that Shapiro would retire as of June 30, 2015, after 37 years of serving the synagogue.
The events are scheduled for Friday, May 15, through Sunday, May 17. They will include:
• A Friday Sabbath service at 7 p.m.
• A Saturday morning Shabbat service at 10 a.m. with guests and a performance by the adult choir.
• A Shabbat luncheon with guest speaker Rabbi David Ellenson, chancellor emeritus of the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion.
• A Saturday evening gala at Discovery World, 500 N. Harbor Dr.
• A Sunday religious school assembly in the rabbi’s honor at 10:30 a.m.
