The Jewish Federation of Madison has provided an innovation grant to involve Madison Jews in “constructive, respectful conversation” about Israel and the Israeli-Palestinian situation, according to the January issue of the Madison Jewish News.
The meetings of this “Jewish Dialogue Group” are being held monthly at Congregation Shaarei Shamayim, Beth Israel Center, Temple Beth El and the UW Hillel. The first was scheduled for Jan. 28, and the second is planned for Thursday, Feb. 12, 7 p.m., both at the UW Hillel.
The meetings constitute the first Wisconsin appearance of a national project, the Jewish Dialogue Group. Based in Philadelphia, this endeavor was founded in 2001.
According to its website, it seeks “to foster vibrant, respectful dialogue within Jewish communities about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and other challenging issues.” The website also says the organization has facilitated more than 300 dialogue programs and its materials have been used in North America, Great Britain and Israel.
More information about this project in Madison can be obtained by emailing office@shamayim.org.
