Kristallnacht seen through teen eyes

The Milwaukee Jewish community’s commemoration of Kristallnacht — the national German Nazi anti-Jewish pogrom of November 1938 — is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 9, 2 p.m., at the Rubenstein Pavilion of the Jewish Home and Care Center, 1414 N. Prospect Ave.

The theme will be “Kristallnacht through the Eyes of Adolescents.” The featured speaker will be Walter Reed, a member of the speakers’ bureau at the Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center.

Reed, born Werner Rindsberg in German in 1924, was 14 when Kristallnacht occurred and was arrested and held in jail for three days during that time.

The event is sponsored by the Nathan and Esther Pelz Holocaust Education Resource Center of the Milwaukee Jewish Federation and the JHCC. Co-chairs are Lorraine Hoffmann and Betsy Maier Reilly.
