Author (“The Red Tent”) and Jewish activist Anita Diamant will be speaking on Saturday, Oct. 25, 4 p.m., at Congregation Shalom, 7630 N. Santa Monica Blvd.
Diamant will be in Wisconsin for the world premiere at Carthage College of a play based on her novel “Day After Night.” The play was written by Carthage graduate and award-winning playwright Mikaley Osley.
The event will include a discussion with Diamant, Osley and director Herschel Kruger; a performance by the cast of “Day After Night”; and a question-and-answer opportunity.
“Day After Night” is based on the true story of the 1945 rescue of more than 200 Jewish prisoners from the Atlit internment camp in British Mandate Palestine before Israel’s independence. The story is told through the eyes of four young women interned at the camp.
This event is open to the public, and is free of charge; however, reservations are required. Tickets will be available for purchase for Carthage College’s performance of “Day After Night” (Oct. 24-26, Oct. 30-31, Nov. 1, 7:30 p.m.). Immediately following the program will be a light appetizer and dessert reception.
