Team Milwaukee, the Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center’s delegation to the JCC Maccabi Games, returned from Boca Raton, Fla., having medaled in 17 individual and team events.
The group was led by Delegation Head Aaron Miller, with coaches Garry Mason, Dann Jacobson, Carissa Mindt, and Ally Koller. The team comprised 37 teen participants.
Leading the medal count was Yair Macagon, who earned four gold medals and one silver medal in bowling, and Alex Fasseas, who received three silver medals in relay swimming.
Jake Coran, Sam Scribner, Rafi Barash, and Sophie Gilbert all medaled in tennis. Team medals included bronze in boys soccer, bronze in boys baseball and bronze in girls soccer.
The team also earned two Midot Medals, which are presented to participants who best exemplify the values of the JCC Maccabi Games. Milwaukee basketball player Sam Komisar and girls volleyball coach Dann Jacobson received this honor.
The 2014 games took place Aug. 10-15. Milwaukee will host the next games in August 2015. (See July 2013 Chronicle.)
