Shanghai ghetto survivor to speak about her book

Milwaukeean Edie Shafer will launch her newly published book, “Shanghai Deliverance: A Holocaust Survival Story,” at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 8, at the Jewish Museum Milwaukee, 1360 N. Prospect Ave.

Shafer shared her family’s story with Mary Munson Murphy and Sara Sillars, and their work produced the book, which details the Oelsner family’s escape from Nazi Germany to Shanghai, China.

Shafer was born in the Shanghai ghetto, and spent the first seven years of her life there.

This is a free event held in partnership with JMM and the Nathan & Esther Pelz Holocaust Education Resource Center, both programs of the Milwaukee Jewish Federation.

Light refreshments will be served (dietary laws observed). Call 414-390-5730 or email programs@JewishMuseumMilwaukee.org for further information.
