Kevin J. Atinsky

          Kevin J. Atinsky of West Allis died on April 24. He was 43.

          Born in the Milwaukee area, he graduated from Nicolet High School in 1989 and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee with a degree in economics in 1994.

          He worked as an actuary. He belonged to the American Academy of Actuaries and was a fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society.

          He is survived by children Madeline, Alex and Marlee; parents Charlotte and Harold Atinsky; former wife Julie Kaplin; and brother-in-law William Heyman. His sister, Jodi L. Heyman, died in 2013.

          The family suggests memorial contributions to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, 13195 W. Hampton Ave., Butler, WI, 53007.

 
Cheryl P. Baraty

          Cheryl P. Baraty, nee Polansky, of Glendale and Boynton Beach, Fla., died of cancer on April 30. She was 57.

          She graduated from Nicolet High School in 1974, Brandeis University in 1978, Johns Hopkins University in 1980 with a master’s degree in public health, and after some years working for the federal government, she earned a law degree from American University in 1985.

          After spending some time in Israel, she passed the Wisconsin law bar in 1990 and joined her father’s law practice in Milwaukee, specializing in family law. She became the firm’s managing partner in 2000 and maintained the office until last year, when she closed it and retired to Florida.

          She was active in the Boy Scouts of America’s Jewish scouting programs in Milwaukee and nationally. According to a blog post on the website jewishscouting.org, she helped keep Cub Scout, Boy Scout and Venturing units active at the Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center for many years.

          In addition, she was central region chair of the National Jewish Committee on Scouting of the Boy Scouts of America. With Kim Queen, she chaired the Jewish Committee on Scouting for the Greater Milwaukee Council.

          In 2004, she received the Silver Beaver Award, “the highest award that a local Boy Scout council can present to a scouting volunteer,” according to a report in The Chronicle.

          She married Lior Baraty in 1986; the marriage ended in divorce.

          She is survived by son Yaniv Baraty; parents Sheila and Burt Polansky; and sisters Laurel Polansky Kadouri and Geela Spira.

          A graveside service was held May 2 in Lake Worth Memory Gardens in Lake Worth, Fla.

Lorraine Robbins

          Lorraine Robbins, nee Cohen, of Glendale died April 16 of complications of Alzheimer’s disease. She was 88.

          She was born in Omaha, Neb. She graduated from Coon Rapids High School in Iowa, and graduated from the University of Washington in Seattle with a degree in social work.

          She came to Milwaukee in 1950 to work as administrative assistant at the Milwaukee Jewish Federation (then called the Milwaukee Jewish Welfare Fund), and stayed for 42 years, retiring in 1992.

          The Chronicle article about her on the occasion of her retirement (July 3, 1992 issue) described her as the MJF “human computer” who “has a wealth of information about the Milwaukee Jewish community.”

          She was a member of Congregation Anshai Lebowitz and its sisterhood. She enjoyed travel, particular to the condominium she and her husband, Bernard Robbins, own in Acapulco, Mexico.

          In addition to her husband of 58 years, she is survived by daughter Lisa (Mark Kalz) Robbins of Milwaukee, son Steven Robbins of Glendale, sister Mirriam (Sylvan) Jubelirer of Glendale, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

          Goodman-Bensman Whitefish Bay Funeral Home handled arrangements. Rabbi Gil-Ezer Lerer officiated at the funeral on April 18. Burial was in Mound Zion Cemetery.

          The family suggests memorial contributions to the Jewish National Fund, the Alzheimer’s Association, Congregation Anshai Lebowitz or the Milwaukee Jewish Federation.
