Deskalo joins
BILTRITE Furniture

          Michal Deskalo, a Milwaukee native, recently was hired by BILTRITE Furniture team, a locally Jewish-owned and operated retail furniture and mattress store. She is taking on a major role in the firm’s office operations.

          Deskalo graduated with majors in journalism and Hebrew from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and obtained a master’s degree from Tel Aviv University in Middle Eastern Studies.

          After living and working in the security and research field for 10 years in Washington, D.C., she moved back to Milwaukee with her husband and two daughters.

 
Forman receives
Kiwanis award

          Rachel Forman, executive director of Grand Avenue Club, is recipient of the Kiwanis Milwaukee Award from the Kiwanis Club of Milwaukee.

          According to a press release, “She was selected for her vision, initiative, founding, development and continuing involvement with GAC in assisting those who experience mental illness to reintegrate back into society.”

          The award was presented March 26 at a luncheon at the War Memorial Center. Previous recipients have included Sen. Herb Kohl, Gwen Jackson, Justice Janine Geske and Joseph Zilber.

 
JCC hires Gardner as
special needs coordinator

          Tiffany Gardner has been hired as the new special needs coordinator for the Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center. She will assist in the enhancement and development of school-year programming for special needs children in kindergarten through age 18.

          In addition, she will coordinate the JCC Chaverim Club, which offers ongoing social, recreational, educational and Judaic programs for adults with developmental disabilities.

          Gardner, of Waukesha, has a bachelor’s degree in communications and a minor in Jewish studies from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Prior to joining the JCC, she worked for the Wisconsin Early Autism Project, providing in-home early intervention therapy for children with autism.
