Chai Point to present art auction, concerts, more

          Chai Point Senior Living hosts Hillel Milwaukee’s Silent Art Auction featuring works by local artists on Thursday, May 1, 6:30 p.m. in the Rubenstein Pavilion. A dessert reception will be provided. All proceeds from the auction benefit the victims of the recent typhoon in the Philippines.

          The annual Flourish Festival, sponsored by Creative Trust Milwaukee, invites the community to experience intergenerational arts programming.

          Flourish Fest events at Chai Point begin on Sunday, May 4, 2 p.m. with “Spread Your Wings: A Birding Afternoon.” Birder Rebecca Sher will give a presentation on Wisconsin’s migratory birds. Birding will follow, weather permitting.

          “En Plein Air Extraordinaire” takes place on Sunday, May 18, 2 p.m. Residents and guests can enjoy an afternoon of music, fresh air and watercolor painting on the Chai Point terrace, overlooking Lake Michigan.

          The festival concludes with an “All-Festival Celebration” on Thursday, May 22, 3 p.m. and 7 p.m., in the Rubenstein Pavilion.

          On Thursday, May 8, 3 p.m., Gilbert Walker, a volunteer with Lake Park Friends, will present “History and Highlights of Lake Park.”

          Rabbi Steve Adams of Congregation Emanu-El of Waukesha continues his lecture series “Jews of Other Countries” on Mondays, May 12 and 19, 2:45 p.m. These installments will discuss the Jews of Latin America.

          Chai Point offers a variety of concerts in May. Residents and staff will celebrate May birthdays with a performance from musician Tom Stanfield on Wednesday, May 14, 2:30 p.m. in Rubenstein Pavilion.

          On Thursday, May 15, 3 p.m., Chai Point will present the Bourbon Street Stompers in the Rubenstein Pavilion. The group performs a mix of traditional Dixieland jazz along with ragtime and novelty tunes. Refreshments will be served. Friends from Shorewood Senior Center and Sarah Chudnow Community (Mequon) will attend.

          On Tuesday, May 20, 7 p.m. the Milwaukee Letter Carriers Band performs in the Rubenstein Pavilion. The 18-piece band plays patriotic tunes and music from the 1940s, particularly by the Glen Miller Orchestra.

          Howard Tolkan, Milwaukee attorney and Jewish music aficionado, guest lectures on Wednesday, May 28, 3 p.m. This program will highlight the career of Barbra Streisand.
