Obituaries for March 2014

Rose Dubester

          Rose Dubester, nee Primakow, of Mequon died on Dec. 20. She was 90.

          She was born and raised in Milwaukee. After marrying David Dubester, they moved to Superior, where they established the pharmacy Dubester Drugs, and raised their children.

          They were members of Temple Beth El in Superior and she served as its librarian. She was also involved in many organizations, including Hadassah, the Women’s League, the Sick Loan Cupboard and Israel Bonds.

          She was “an avid reader with an endless quest for knowledge,” according to her family. “Her life was sustained by intellectual adventure, curiosity, forward thinking, Zionism and hopeful ideals.”

          Her husband died in 1988. She is survived by children Gail Dubester-Litt of Plymouth, Minn., and Jeffrey Dubester of Madison; sister Sophie (Sherman) Hochman in Davis, Calif.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

          Goodman-Bensman Whitefish Bay Funeral Home handled arrangements. Rabbi Jessica Barolsky officiated at a graveside service in Beth Hamedrosh Hagodel Cemetery on Dec. 20. Cantor Jeffrey Conn officiated at a memorial service at the Sarah Chudnow Campus Dec. 22.

          The family requests memorial contributions to Hadassah for the Hadassah Medical Center in Jerusalem.

 
Joel P. Kimmel

          Joel P. Kimmel of Mequon died Feb. 1 of complications of cancer. He was 79.

          A native Milwaukeean, he graduated from Whitefish Bay High School in 1952; attended the University of Wisconsin Madison and Milwaukee campuses and earned his undergraduate degree in 1955; and graduated from the Marquette University Law School in 1958.

          He worked for the family’s scrap recycling business, the Parks-Pioneer Corporation, serving as the firm’s president. He was a president of the Wisconsin chapter of the Institute of Scrap Iron and Steel.

          He was a member of The Shul. He enjoyed collecting stamps and traveling the world, and he attended classes at UWM as a returning student. He was a member of the Mequon Board of Review in 2009.

          He is survived by his wife, Margot “Sue” (nee Rosen); daughter Beth (Gershon) Tokayer of Bet Shemesh, Israel; son Andrew (Lori) Kimmel of Mequon; sister Roberta (Richard) Kimmel-Cohn of New York City; brother Richard (Ronna) Kimmel of Milwaukee; and six grandchildren.

          Goodman-Bensman Whitefish Bay Funeral Home handled arrangements. Rabbi Shmaya Shmotkin officiated at the funeral on Feb. 3. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery.

          The family suggests memorial contributions to The Shul, the Jewish Community Pantry and the Jewish National Fund.

 
Debbie Waxman

          Former Bayside resident Debbie Waxman of Gilbert, Ariz., died Feb. 5 from complications of a heart attack. She was 59.

          She graduated from Nicolet High School in 1973 and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 1982. She was an occupational therapist and a practitioner of Jin Shin Jyutsu at Innovative Primary Care in Gilbert.

          According to her brother, Benjamin Waxman, she was “a devoted mother, daughter, sister, extended family member, healer, adventurer, inspirer, prankster and friend of many.”

          She is survived by daughters Talia Elizabeth Troness and Dana Alyssa Troness; mother Betty Anne Waxman of Gilbert; sister Marsha Waxman (Kurt) Link of Chicago; and brother Benjamin (Gwen Wurm) Waxman of Miami, Fla.

          The funeral and a memorial gathering took place in Gilbert.
