Carl Manes of Mequon died Dec. 31. He was 95.
He was born in North Adams, Mass., and served in World War II. He owned and operated the Alumatic Corporation in Milwaukee for about 30 years.
He was a member of Congregation Shalom and a Mason.
He is survived by his wife Clara (nee Gross), son Michael (Ellen) Manes of Mequon, sister Beverly Wexler, two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Blane Goodman Funeral Service handled arrangements. Rabbi Noah Chertkoff officiated at the funeral Jan. 3 at Congregation Shalom. Burial was in Mound Zion Cemetery.

Milwaukee native Jeffrey Brooke Parr of Denver died Dec. 21. He was 43.
He graduated from Nicolet High School in 1988 and from the Culinary Institute of America in 1990. He was an executive chef and consultant, and served as president of the Rocky Mountain Restaurant Consultants. He also was an avid skier and golfer.
He is survived by his wife Libby (nee Pollack), son Brooklyn Parr and father Shepp (Meryl) Parr.
The funeral took place Dec. 27 at Temple Emanuel in Denver.

Milwaukee native Mary Waisman, nee Edelstein, of Sherman Oaks, Calif., died Dec. 24. She was 96.
According to her family, she was a lifelong Jewish community activist. She was a past president of the Milwaukee Jewish Federation’s Women’s Division, and “had a deep commitment to the State of Israel.”
According to an article in the Dec. 6, 1963, Wisconsin Jewish Chronicle, she was “one of the community’s most popular and effective leaders.” The article also said that she had served on the boards of directors of the Jewish Family and Children’s Service and the Edith Babbitz Nursery School, and had chaired the nursery school committee of the Jewish Community Center during the time the JCC began its own nursery school.
Her husband, Raymond C. Waisman, M.D., died in 1998. She is survived by children James Waisman, M.D., Anne (William Hausman) Waisman and Ellen (Andrew) Smith; sisters Marvin (Judi) Edelstein and Charlotte (Martin) Slater; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorial contributions to The Waisman Center via the University of Wisconsin Foundation or to the Milwaukee Jewish Federation.
