Rabbis Grussgott visit cultural center in state

Why would two rabbis visit the Luxembourg American Cultural Center in Belgium, Wis.? Because one of them happens to the spiritual leader of a synagogue founded by Luxembourg Jews — and the other is the first one’s now Wisconsin-based father.

This visit was reported in the center’s November electronic newsletter by Kevin Wester, executive director of the Luxembourg American Cultural Society, and Wester shared it with The Chronicle.

According to Wester’s article, Rabbi Moshe Grussgott now serves Ramath Orah Congregation in New York City, a synagogue founded in 1941 by some 60 Jewish refugees from Luxembourg. In fact, the congregation’s Hebrew name means “hill of light,” which is also the meaning of Luxembourg.

That rabbi’s father is Rabbi Ira Grussgott, who is now the spiritual leader of Congregation Anshai Lebowitz in Mequon.

Wester’s article reports that both rabbis “thoroughly enjoyed” visiting the center and that Rabbi Moshe has become “one of the newest members of the LACS.”
