Lubavitch slates Chanukah events statewide

          A large celebration at Milwaukee’s Bayshore Town Center and a menorah lighting at the Governor’s Mansion are among the Chanukah events planned by Lubavitch of Wisconsin for December.

          On Sunday, Dec. 1, 5 p.m., a “Chanukah Extravaganza” is planned for Bayshore Town Center in Glendale. It will be emceed by TMJ4 news reporter Jonah Kaplan and include an EPIC laser light show.

          Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker is scheduled to light a Chanukah menorah at the annual Chanukah Celebration and Menorah Lighting on Monday, Dec. 2, 1 p.m., at the Governor’s Mansion, 99 Cambridge Rd., Madison.

          Rabbi Yisroel Shmotkin, director of Lubavitch of Wisconsin, is slated to be present to explain the holiday’s significance. There also will be a choral performance from Hillel Academy students.

          Prior to Chanukah (Nov. 27-Dec. 5 this year), Lubavitch of Wisconsin placed large menorahs in many public buildings such as the Milwaukee Public Museum, Discovery World, Bradley Center and Mitchell International Airport among others; in the lobbies of numerous commercial buildings; as well as having a 15-foot menorah placed at the O’Donnell Park Pavilion, facing the Milwaukee Art Museum.

          Chabad Lubavitch groups throughout Wisconsin will be holding their own public menorah lightings. They include:

          • Chabad of Mequon on Sunday, Dec. 1, 3 p.m. at the Mequon Metro Market.

          • Chabad of the Bay Area on Sunday, Dec. 1, 5 p.m., at 220 Bellevue St. in Green Bay.

          • Chabad of Kenosha on Sunday, Dec. 1, 4:45 p.m., at the Civic Center.

          • Chabad of Waukesha on Monday, Dec. 2, 5 p.m., at the Waukesha County Courthouse.

          • Chabad of Mequon on Monday, Dec. 2, 7:20 p.m., in downtown Grafton.
