Fifteen students throughout the Milwaukee area will have an easier time attending college in the fall thanks to a new program of Milwaukee Jewish Free Loan Association.
MJFLA has granted each student a $5,000 interest-free loan to help with college expenses.
Ginny Gendelman is executive director of MJFLA, which is based in Whitefish Bay. “The loans are the result of a generous gift from Mark and Barbara Glazer to establish an educational loan fund,” she said in a news release. “They and MJFLA want to promote education and this is a wonderful way to do so.”
The loans are available to all students who are Wisconsin residents and meet other criteria, such as maintaining at least a 2.0 grade point average. They are interest-free and repaid at $100 a month into a revolving fund used to make future loans.
MJFLA still has funds available for loans for the fall semester. Information is available and students can apply online at www.MJFLA.org.
MJFLA also provides loans to people with other financial needs that meet established criteria and who are unable to obtain loans from conventional sources. As loans are repaid, MJFLA recycles those funds into new loans.
