The Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center has set its free film classes for the fall season.
Its “Jews Around the World” series is held on Sunday afternoons at 4 p.m. On Sunday, Oct. 6, it will be showing “Orchestra of Exiles” (2012), a documentary about the origins of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra and how violinist Bronislaw Huberman rescued musicians from Nazi-occupied Europe to create the orchestra.
This program is co-sponsored by the Holocaust Education Resource Center of the Coalition for Jewish Learning, the education program of the Milwaukee Jewish Federation, and the MJF’s Israel Center. Josh Richman will lead the discussion.
Additional free classes in the series will feature “The Other Son” on Nov. 3 and “Restoration” on Dec. 8.
The “Cutting Edge Israel” free film classes on contemporary short Israeli films will be showing “Israel Inside” on Oct. 10, “The Breakfast Parliament” on Oct. 24, “I Had a Dream” on Nov. 14, and “Follow Me: The Yoni Netanyahu Story” on Dec. 5.
“Cutting Edge Israel” meets on Thursday nights, 7:30 p.m., and is co-sponsored by the Israel Center.
The JCC and the Israel Center will also be presenting a continuation of the Israeli hit series “Prisoners of War” (“Hatufim”), Season 2, on Tuesdays, Oct. 22 and 29, and Nov. 5, 12 and 19, at 7 p.m.
