Sarah Chudnow Community slates programs

   The Sarah Chudnow Community will fill August with a variety of events, speakers and the conclusion of the weekly Summer Concert Series, sponsored by the Gilbert Meisel Music Fund of the Jewish Home and Care Center Foundation.

   Singer, musician and storyteller Bob Ropiak performs on Sunday, Aug. 4, 2-3 p.m.

   On Monday, Aug. 5 at 2-3 p.m., Michal Makov-Peled, co-emissary from Israel and co-director of the Milwaukee Jewish Federation’s Israel Center with her husband Ro’ee Peled, will speak on “Women in the Military: An Israeli’s Perspective.”

   The Summer Concert Series continues on Tuesday, Aug. 6, 7-8 p.m., with singer Carmen Nickerson and pianist-composer Kostia.

   A Greek dinner will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 7, with two dinner seatings, 5 and 5:30 p.m. Cost is $17.50 per person.

   Pianist Zoe Biller will entertain before and during dinner; she will begin at 4:45 p.m. The evening will conclude with a screening of the classic movie, “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.”Reservations are required; call 262-478-1500.

   On Sunday, Aug. 11 at 2-3 p.m., Papi Makaena returns to perform contemporary vocal and instrumental music.

   The Summer Concert Series on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 7-8 p.m.,presents the Quattro Horns.

   Doug Haise on Thursday, Aug. 15, 7-8 p.m., will present an evening of “Ragtime Piano: the Best of the Rest.”

   On Sunday, Aug. 18, 2-3 p.m., Anne Davis will sing favorite tunes from Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole, Dinah Washington and others.

   The Summer Concert Series concludes on Tuesday, Aug. 20, 7-8 p.m., with a performance by Enid Bootzin-Berkovits, singer and musical director and founding member of the Milwaukee Jewish Chorale.

   On Thursday, Aug. 22, 7-8 p.m.,Bill Simmons from the American Red Cross will speak about disaster relief, and what volunteers did in the aftermath of the Oklahoma tornado.

   On Sunday, Aug. 25, the Sunday concert at 2-3 p.m. will feature Terry Morgenrothsinging“Musical Memories of the 40s, 50s and 60s.”

   In addition, the Sarah Chudnow Community will be hosting an Antiques Appraisal Fair on the same day, 1-4 p.m. A $5 fee will cover the appraisal of up to three items. Only items that can be hand-carried will be appraised and no firearms or weapons of any type will be permitted.
