Hillel Academy launches outreach to Israel soldiers

The Hillel Academy Jewish day school on May 5 inaugurated a year-long program entitled “Reaching Out…Reaching In,” according to a news release from the school. The program was launched at the Women & Girl’s Afternoon at Lubavitch House.

Throughout the past year, the school’s bat mitzvah class has been learning about acts of service through their program. This new chapter of the program will connect the entire school with Yashar LaChayal.

This organization provides members of the Israeli Defense Force with warm clothing and other items, with particular focus on the “lone soldier,” or soldiers serving in the IDF who are citizens of other countries and do not have family in Israel.

Hillel Academy students will be sending packages to the soldiers, particularly surrounding the holidays of Rosh HaShanah, Chanukah and Purim.

They will be conducting a fleece drive to collect warm items for the soldiers in the winter. In the warmer months they will be decorating and sending water bottles. The students also will correspond with the soldiers, making cards and videos, and using Skype.
