In a Hasidic Orthodox family in Tel Aviv, young Shira is engaged to a young man of the same age and background.
However, Shira’s older sister dies in childbirth; and Shira’s mother, who fears her son-in-law may leave Israel with the newborn, proposes that Shira should instead marry the widower.
This is the story of “Fill the Void,” an Israeli film released in 2012, written and directed by Rama Burshtein, being released in the U.S. by Sony Pictures Classics. The film won seven of Israel’s Ophir Awards, including best film and best director.
