Lake Park slates ‘Shabbat in Tzfat’

Lake Park Synagogue will hold a “Shabbat in Tzfat” on Friday night, April 12.

The intent is to have participants journey back in time to celebrate Shabbat with the Kabbalists of 16th century Tzfat (Safed) and learn about a significant controversy of the period: Should the ancient ceremony of semicha, begun by Moses but lost due to Roman oppression, be restored?

The program will be led by Jody Hirsh, Judaic educator at the Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center. Dinner, consisting of 16th century cuisine, will be served at 7:35 p.m., preceded by Shabbat services at 6:45 p.m.

Suggested donation is $10 per person, maximum $35 per family. For more information and to make reservations, call 414-962-5508 or email rabbi@lakeparksynagogue.org.
