Five Milwaukee-area social workers are planning to leave for Israel on March 13. They will be going primarily to the Sovev Kinneret (Around Lake Kinneret) area for seven days to study how to assist people suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other trauma.
This group consists of Noam Wittlin (Veterans Administration Milwaukee/Chicago), Gina Botshtein and Amy Biller Daniels (Jewish Family Services), Carolyn Schuman (Chai Point), and Andrea Smith (Jewish Home and Care Center).
This project is sponsored and organized by Partnership2Gether, the Jewish Agency for Israel effort that pairs Israeli regions with Diaspora Jewish communities through local Jewish federations, according to Elsie Crawford, the Milwaukee Jewish Federation’s P2G Cluster Coordinator. Milwaukee is paired with the Sovev Kinneret region, along with Tulsa, Okla., and St. Paul, Minn.
Crawford in an email wrote that this is “the return visit” for four Israeli social workers from the region who visited Milwaukee in 2011. Crawford also said plans call for the Milwaukee group to give a presentation to the community soon after they return on March 21.
Watch for future Chronicle coverage of this project.
