Biterman recipes included in ‘Miracles & Meals’

Milwaukee resident and Holocaust survivor Taube Biterman has her story and two of her recipes included in the recently published book “Miracles & Meals.”

This book is a sequel to the 2007 “Holocaust Survivor Cookbook,” also published by Caras & Associates. Like the earlier book, “Miracles & Meals” includes recipes provided by survivors and their account of their lives.

Biterman’s story was submitted to the book by her grandson Aaron Biterman. According to this account, Biterman, nee Fuks, was born in Zamosc, Poland, around 1918.

During the Nazi occupation of Poland, she escaped from the Dubno ghetto, and survived by posing as a Ukrainian Catholic. After the war, she married Judka Biterman; and they moved to Milwaukee, where she became a U.S. citizen in 1953.

She provided recipes for pot roast dinner and apple cake.
