JCC launches Youth Humanitarian Project

Throughout the summer, summer campers at the Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center participated in Tzedakah Days. They collected thousands of needed items including food, clothing, pillows, and books for donation Milwaukee area non-profit organizations.

Tzedakah Days marks the beginning of a new community-wide program called the Youth Humanitarian Project, a regional collaborative designed to inspire children ages 4-14 to give of their time, money, and resources to help those in need throughout Greater Milwaukee.

With funding from the Helen Bader Foundation, the “JCC will serve as a central resource for families seeking volunteer opportunities and other ways to participate in the community,” said Rabbi Shari Shamah, the JCC’s Jewish Family Specialist and coordinator of the Youth Humanitarian Project.

Shamah added that the project will include “a number of regular educational components, and work closely with synagogues and other organizations.”
