JFS housing project receives two grants

Jewish Family Services and JFS Housing, Inc., have received two grants for Bradley Crossing, a 60-unit apartment complex in Brown Deer.

The Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Foundation, one of the largest private foundations in the United States, recently awarded $400,000 to the project.

The Helen Bader Foundation also made a two-year commitment to the project‘s goal of developing inclusive housing. The grant will help support a director of inclusion position.

“We are so grateful that The Helen Bader Foundation and The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation are supporting Bradley Crossing, due to its inclusive model and supportive services for people with disabilities. We believe that Bradley Crossing is a model that can be replicated across the country,” said Sylvan Leabman, JFS president/CEO.

Financed in part by Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority tax credits, 30 of the Bradley Crossing units will be devoted to individuals with physical or developmental disabilities or chronic and persistent mental illness.

Bradley Crossing, located at 4375 W. Bradley Rd., also will house offices for JFS staff, along with a 6,000-square foot community center, operated by the Brown Deer Village Park and Recreation Department, which will move the senior meal program to Bradley Crossing.
